SLQ Hobo
I love it when I get a request to make something that I’ve not done before, because I get the chance to learn new skills that I might not have pushed myself to learn in my own time. This week I had an order that taught me several new things…the hobo bag.
My customer had a few specific needs. She wanted curved corners, a pocket on the outside, a divider on the inside, and a handle that wasn’t too long. She also needed it to stand alone because she drives a bus.

I usually use the same interfacing in all my bags (Pellon 70) but this required the use of a little thinner interfacing, so that the bag would have a softer shape. However, I did use my heavier stuff for the divider and to stabilize the bottom.
So this week gave me lots of practice with curves and even inserting the lining a new way. I appreciate these kinds of orders so much.
What about you? Do you love the challenge of new projects or do you prefer to stay within your comfort zone?

Love the bag. I have to say – when it comes to bags I am a little afraid to step out of my comfort zone, but someday…. Yours turned out great!
Thanks so much! When it comes to bags, I typically sew by the seat of pants until I get it mastered, but quilting is another story! I still haven’t tried paper piecing…it scares me.
